All about Monkey Puzzle School
Monkey Puzzle is set in the beautiful grounds of Les Cotils retreat and conference centre in the heart of St Peter Port over looking the Islands of Herm and Sark. It is registered for Pre- School children and for early years education up to the age of 7. At present there are 88 children on the register of which 17 are school age.
The staff of 16 comprise of qualified Nursery Nurses, Montessori teachers and support staff.
At the incoming age of rising 3s the groups are run by Nursery Nurses who are trained to attend to all their emotional social and educational needs.
At Pre Reception level (rising 4s) our classes are taught by qualified Montessori teachers who introduce the children to key life skills. Preparing them for school, introducing them to various concepts, enabling them to explore all areas of creative arts, phonics, numeracy and basic science. Our curriculum content is based on the Early Years Foundation Stage guidelines.
All children have at least 2 sessions of French a week. Theses are taught by our native French teacher Miss Bibi who has been at Monkey Puzzle School for the past 9 years.
Above all we strive to plan activities that are fun, that develop a love of learning and a love of life which will set them in good stead for the rest of their life.
Lunch time is an important part of our day. Our Staff and Children have the opportunity to enjoy a cooked lunch which is prepared for us from the kitchens of La Fregate Hotel or they can bring in their own packed lunch. We all sit together and enjoy a socialable meal and learn the social graces.
In Pre Reception we offer the opportunity to have a weekly swimming lesson organised by Beau Sejour Swim School solely for Monkey Puzzle children.
They are taught to swim by experienced swim school teachers who follow the ASA duckling swim programme.
During the summer months we take advantage of our wonderful location by using the fields for sports activities and the extensive grounds for nature walks. We also have a mini bus for outings further afield.
When the Children move on to their next schools they may go to any of our excellent Island Schools.We do not feed any particular School infact we usually send children off to most state and private school on the island. We will complete a Pre School assessment which is passed on to their new School inorder for the Reception class teachers to learn a little about their pre school experience.
All children have a "key" person who is responsible for their Care and education during their time at Monkey Puzzle. They will keep you updated on progress at school and hopefully answer any questions or concerns you may have from time to time. You are welcome to our School at any time, we have an open door policy and want you to feel free to drop in whenever you like and see what is going on.
